ROLE DESCRIPTION: Snowboard Coach

Term: Winter 2023-2024
Report: Executive Director & Head Coach
Role: 3 coaching roles available, $750 honorarium
Job Overview:
The NWT Snowboard Association is seeking three qualified Snowboard Coaches to support the High Performance Team for winter 2024. Coaches will report to the Executive Director and the Head Coach.
This is a volunteer coaching position, with an honorarium provided to each coach at the end of the season of $750 (given they complete the duties as assigned).
We are seeking at least one male and one female coach to fill these roles due to Games rules and regulations around accommodations, however other gender identities will be considered and gladly accepted.
Position 1: Head Coach
- Oversees all individual athletes training and coaching plans, including on and off snow
- Leads the planning for travel and athlete fundraising efforts
- Leads email communication between caregivers and the coaching team
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Director and other coaches to ensure athletes are supported and coaching staff has the same vision, approach and plan for the season
Position 2: Assistant Coach, team management
- Point person for team communication during team travel, including coaches, caregivers, and athletes
- Main liaison between Games officials and coaching staff during the Games
- Someone organized with excellent communication skills and knowledge of phone apps that utilize group conversations
- Someone who can maintain confidentiality and who can prioritize the relaying of information to the coaching team and athletes as needed
Position 3: Assistant Coach, gear specialist
- Point person for athletes gear maintenance during travel, training, and at the Games
- Seeking someone with snowboard gear and wax technology knowledge, equipment, and skill set
General Duties:
- MUST be available for the following dates:
- Territorial Trials (Yellowknife, weekend in mid-January)
- 3-day team training camp (location TBD, late-February)
- AWG 2024 (Alaska, March 10-16)
- Must have a Passport to travel to Alaska, USA
- Support and attend the Trials competition and help create criteria for team selection
- Work with the coaches to develop a 2-3 month training plan for each athlete
- Attend and coach at a team training camp prior to the Games
- Attend and coach at AWG 2024
- Support athletes at home club for twice weekly training sessions leading up to the Games
- Be available for bi-weekly coaches meeting from December 2023-March 2024
Qualifications Needed:
- Intermediate to advanced snowboarding skills
- Instructing or coaching experience as asset
- CSCP Comp Intro Course needed
- NWT Snowboard will support a qualified candidate in registering for this course should they have all other necessary qualifications
- Experience working with youth aged 12-16 years old
- CASI Level 1+ an asset
- Must have lived in the NWT for at least 6-months prior to the Games
- Must be 18+ years old as of December 2023
